Fundamentals Immersion Course (Edinburgh, UK)

This course is sold out!

Please contact us to be added to the waiting list.

Overview

If you have “tried everything” to relieve your back, neck, shoulder, or hip pain for the long term and have only experienced short term relief (or none at all), then this course is for you! Eliminating muscle pain, stiffness, and the feeling of ‘getting old” starts with the brain. Trauma, stress, and postural compensations change the way the brain senses and moves us, and how we experience ourselves on a physical and emotional level. Clinical Somatics teaches you to  restore fluid, effortless, and joyful movement – on your own, wherever you are and whenever you need it. Come and learn to be more present and comfortable in your body and in your life.

This course is a comprehensive introduction to the core principles of Clinical Somatics: the science, philosophy, techniques, and Somatic Movements. It is for anyone with an interest in learning about or seeking to deepen their understanding of Clinical Somatics for their own personal education and exploration. No prior experience or training is required to participate. This course is also appropriate for those in the movement or bodywork field: fitness trainers, physical therapists, massage therapists, or anyone seeking to learn how to incorporate Somatic principles into their primary practice - or their life!

COME AND LEARN:

  • How Sensory Motor Amnesia contributes to most chronic muscle pain

  • How three universal stress reflexes affect our daily lives, mentally, emotionally and physically

  • The benefits of pandiculation vs. stretching

  • How to apply the movements, principles, and concepts of Hanna Somatics to your life

  • A basic routine of Somatic Movements that will result in renewed muscle control and freedom of movement

  • And more…

If you are seeking a long-term solution to pain relief, want to regain your freedom of movement, or are simply looking for answers, then this course is for you. It's never too late to learn to live your life pain-free!

Course Specifics

You will be led through Somatic Movements to explore your own movement areas of Sensory Motor Amnesia. You will learn a basic routine of Somatic Movements that can be practiced daily in order to restore muscle function and somatic awareness. Free yourself from chronic pain by learning to rewire your habitual brain with somatic expert Martha Peterson.

Have you tried to address chronic pain, only to find short-term relief—or none at all? Trauma, stress, and overcompensation can limit or change how we unconsciously express our physical range over time, locking us into recurring discomfort and emotional anguish. Movement and somatic expert Martha Peterson teaches you how to restore fluid, effortless, and joyful movement, on your own, at any time and place. Learn to reprogram your consciousness to relax your muscles, stop habitual pain and tightening, improve reflexive or poor posture, and lengthen muscles safely without stretching in everyday life and after exercise.

Be more present and comfortable in your body and life. Return home with a daily routine of easy, safe, and effective movements that restore improved muscle function and achieve long-term pain relief.

Move Without Pain: Essential Somatics

Somatics on Beautiful Cortes Island

If you have “tried everything” to relieve your back, neck, shoulder, or hip pain for the long term and have only experienced short-term relief (or none at all), then this course is for you! Eliminating muscle pain, stiffness, and the feeling of “getting old” starts with the brain. Trauma, stress, and postural compensations change the way the brain senses and moves us, and how we experience ourselves on a physical and emotional level.

Essential Somatics teaches you to restore fluid, effortless, and joyful movement – on your own, wherever you are and whenever you need it. Come and learn to be more present and comfortable in your body and in your life.

About This Retreat

An all too common myth is that limited movement, disability, and pain is the inevitable result of aging. In reality, it is the way in which we unconsciously adapt to the stresses of our lives – the accidents, injuries, surgeries, and emotional and psychological stresses – that determines whether we become “creaky and old” or maintain our physical freedom, self-awareness, and independence. The choice is yours. To learn to maintain freedom of movement requires a new perspective on movement, ourselves, our habits, the brain, and how it controls us from the inside out.

Through lectures, movement sessions, and interactive participation learn:

  • The root cause of most chronic muscle pain (Sensory Motor Amnesia) and how to reverse it

  • How to retain voluntary muscle function and fluid movement with gentle, safe somatic movement

  • How trauma, daily movement habits, and reflexive responses to stress disconnect us from our bodies and contribute to common pain conditions and limited movement. such as low back pain, neck, shoulder, hip and joint pain, anxiety, headaches, and limited movement

  • How our thoughts, emotions, and physical stresses create either restriction and pain, or freedom and ease in the body

  • How all humans respond reflexively to stress within three full body reflex patterns

  • How to lengthen muscles and reset muscle function without stretching

  • A basic routine of easy, safe, and profoundly effective Somatic Movements that, when practiced daily, restore muscle control and self-awareness, eliminate chronic muscle pain, and keep you moving freely in your chosen activity for the rest of your life.

What People Are Saying About Move Without Pain: Essential Somatics

I came [to this seminar] with chronic lower back pain and muscle tension. I walked away with a new body and a new outlook on life.

I am beyond grateful to Martha Peterson for her dedication to sharing this very important work. My mind is consistently blown in my own daily Somatics practice, as I experience new aspects of this work and of myself, and remain pain free!

I was so inspired by this work, that I knew I had found a new direction. I am now following a clinical track of training with Essential Somatics® and teaching weekly Somatic movement classes. It is truly rewarding to see the difference this work makes in people’s lives!

Fundamentals Immersion Course (Vancouver, BC)

It is intended for anyone with an interest in learning about or seeking to deepen their understanding of Clinical Somatics for their own personal education and exploration.

You will be led through Somatic Movements to explore your own movement areas of Sensory Motor Amnesia. You will learn a basic routine of Somatic Movements that can be practiced daily in order to restore muscle function and somatic awareness. We will explore the technique of pandiculation, a powerful technique that restores sensory and motor function. Participants will receive a free digital download of our Pain Relief Through Movement audio CD and all appropriate learning materials.

Essential Somatic Movement Retreat

Somatics in Mexico

MDJ_FRENTE.jpeg

Come awaken your senses to a new possibility for your body, yourself, and your life while surrounded by the stunning beauty of the ocean, white sand beaches, and vibrant sunsets. Essential Somatics is thrilled to return to Mexico to offer the Essential Somatic Movement Retreat, taught by Martha Peterson, founder of Essential Somatics and author of Move Without Pain, and Theresa Evans, creator of the Move Without Pain Fundamentals Immersion Course and Essentially Somatic Yoga®.

Whether you are dealing with chronic muscle pain, limited mobility, a general feeling of “getting old,” or you just want to move and play, you will find something freeing and enriching when you come to beautiful Chacala in Nayarit, Mexico, and learn to move with mastery and joy.  This course is for EVERY BODY, no matter your age or activity level.

Through lectures, movement sessions, and interactive participation, you will learn critical, missing link information that will leave you feeling lighter and brighter, with a renewed sense of awareness of yourself.

We will dive deeply into:

  • The root cause of most chronic muscle pain and how to reverse it

  • How to retain voluntary muscle function and fluid movement with gentle, safe somatic movement

  • How everyday stresses and one’s mindset contribute to common pain conditions and limited movement.

This retreat is taught by Martha Peterson, CHSE, and Theresa Evans, CCSE.

Somatics in Mexico

MDJ_FRENTE.jpeg

Come awaken your senses to a new possibility for your body, yourself, and your life while surrounded by the stunning beauty of the ocean, white sand beaches, and vibrant sunsets.  Essential Somatics is thrilled to offer our first Essential Somatic Movement Retreat in Mexico, taught by Martha Peterson, founder of Essential Somatics and author of Move Without Pain, and Theresa Evans, creator of the Move Without Pain Fundamentals Immersion Course and Essentially Somatic Yoga®.

This retreat is taught by Martha Peterson, CHSE, and Theresa Evans, CCSE.

About This Workshop

What People Are Saying About Move Without Pain - Essential Somatics

I came [to this seminar] with chronic lower back pain and muscle tension. I walked away with a new body and a new outlook on life.

I am beyond grateful to Martha Peterson for her dedication to sharing this very important work. My mind is consistently blown in my own daily Somatics practice, as I experience new aspects of this work and of myself, and remain pain free!

I was so inspired by this work, that I knew I had found a new direction. I am now following a clinical track of training with Essential Somatics® and teaching weekly Hanna Somatic movement classes. It is truly rewarding to see the difference this work makes in people’s lives!

Pain-Free Leg & Hip Joints Workshop

It's time to rid yourself of nagging hip pain that interferes with an active lifestyle, whether it be running, cycling, snowboarding or hiking. In this workshop you will learn gentle Somatic Movements that you can do anytime, anywhere, to release the tight muscles of the waist, legs, and core, and regain balance and efficient movement. Learn to connect the upper body with the legs and hip joints to align the pelvis and spine. The result will be more fluid walking, running flexibility, balance and coordination.

The movements you will learn are appropriate for all ages and activity levels. You will learn to use your brain to “re-train” your muscles to lengthen and relax, as you regain muscle control and eliminate pain and stiffness.

This workshop is of particular interest to runners, cyclists, snowboarders, skiers, yoga practitioners and those recovering from injury or surgery.

              Pain-Free Neck & Shoulders Workshop

Getting stuck in our daily stress is a surefire way to wind up with chronic neck and shoulder pain. The good news is that you learn to take back control of tight muscles at relax them whenever you wish, just by using your brain!

Neck and shoulder pain often results from tight muscles in the muscles of both the front and back of the body. In this workshop you will use gently, easy movements that will teach you and your brain to reverse stooped, rounded shoulders that can develop due to repetitive computer work, excessive driving, or sitting. We will also address stiff, painful necks that can occur due to overly contracted back muscles. You will improve your awareness as you experience the connection between the neck and the entire spine, and regain mobility in the back, neck, and shoulders.

This workshop is of special interest to anyone suffering from chronic headaches, or migraines, or those who sit for long hours at a computer or in a car. For those who have had a car accident or sports injury, this workshop will be very beneficial.
